Coral Renaixença was founded in the summer of 1995. Currently it has about 70 members older than 15 years old.

Maestro Ramon Marcó was the conductor from the foundation until the summer of 1991. From that day on, Benet Puig took over until July 2005. Then, the choir had two more conductors; first Tomàs Grau and later Meritxell Gallés. At the beginnning of 2008 Benet Puig provisionally took the position until Pau Jorquera i Bordonau started in September as the official conductor.

The choir has made more than 700 concerts in Catalunya and Spain, and we have also performed in Italy, France, the Checz Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Switzerland, Austria, Holland, Russia, Cuba, Portugal, Canada and Belgium. During the summer of 2006 Coral Renaixenca participated in the Salzburg Festival, where we made some concerts to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Mozart’s death. In July 2008 the choir took part in the ” III Certamen Nacional de Coros de Rivas Vaciamadrid”. We have also performed on the radio and on TV and we have recorded a number of LP’s and CD’s.

In August 1986 Coral Renaixença won the first prize of the “habaneras” section in the “XXXII Festival Internacional de Habaneras y PolifonÌa de Torrevieja (Alicante)”. In August 1990 we also won the first prize of the polyphonic section in the XXXVI edition of the same contest and also got the first prize with the best song composed in the country of origin. In October 1997 we got the second prize in the “XVII Certamen Feria de Todos los Santos de Concentania (Alicante)”, and in October 2008 the choir reached the second position in the “II Fetival Internacional de Corals de Malgrat de Mar (Barcelona)”.

Coral Renaixença has a wide range of scores belonging to more than 600 different types of music, including classical and religious music from the Renaissance, Baroque and Romanticism; Catalan traditional music as well as folk music from all over the world; opera, operetta, musical comedy, gospel and famous Broadway musicals.

We have also performed in the famous Palau de la Musica Catalana in different occasions, in April 2001 to perform the Requiem of Gabriel Fauré with the Orchestra Germinans, conducted by maestro Guerassim Voronkov, and the last one for the celebration of F.C. Barcelona centenary, with the “Polifònica de Puigreig” choir conducted by Ramon Noguera. The choir was in the “Grec” festival in Barcelona and also in the “VI Festival d’Òpera de les Dues Catalunyes” in Argelers sur Mer, performing Bizet’s opera “Els Pescadors de Perles”, conducted by maestro Manel Cabero.

In 2006 Coral Renaixeça celebrated it 30th anniversary and performed W.A. Mozart ‘s “Missa Brevis” in G and different fragments from Albert Guinovart’s Catalan musicals with Mr Guinovart himself at the piano.

Coral Renaixença is a member of the “Federació Catalana d’Entitats Corals” (Catalan Federation of Choirs).


The Choir is always looking forward for new challenges like participate in new contests, festivals and other events.
